In 1987 a lot of amazing things happened for me in 4th grade. For one, I could beat everyone in my class at arm wrestling (beating a large group of people at arm wrestling will never happen again in my life), I kept winning Spelling Bees and getting rewarded with Butterfingers and my friend Ernie Bock introduced me to Rat Fink and the art of Ed Roth. Rat Fink was conceived as an anti-hero to mickey mouse, and was one of the ugliest and meanest looking cartoons I had ever seen at the time. Rat Fink was the first cartoon that made me realize not everything has to be perfect and pretty.
This drawing is what would happen if Rat Fink was a landscape and not a bulging eyed rat driving a hot rod. Maybe this scene is not the Pacific Northwest, but really another planet made entirely out of Rat Fink? I’m not sure what is exactly going on here and that is the definite beauty of allowing the subconscious to flow!
